What’s the best time to vacation in Siesta Key?
It’s a great question, but the answer depends on your definition of “best.” Are you looking to avoid crowds and save money? Or would you rather have the best weather possible, no matter the cost?
In the summer time you’ll enjoy the lowest rates because this is our slower time of year. Fewer vacationers means you can save a bit on a condo rental. The hottest weather of the year usually hits in July/August, but rarely does it get hotter than about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
So if you don’t mind the upper 80s or low 90s, then the summer may be the perfect time for you to visit. (Don’t forget! The Gulf ocean water is warmest in the summer. You can walk right in and never even flinch.)
Late fall, winter, and early spring are the peak vacation times in Siesta Key. Many people get tired of the hard northern winters and decide to vacation down south. Not to mention, Spring Break is always a popular time to get away.
Because of higher demand, you’ll pay a little more to rent our unit during peak season. But you’ll also enjoy more moderate temperatures, usually in the 70s. There are only two downsides of vacationing on Siesta Key during the winter: most places are busier than normal and the Gulf water is a little cooler.
I decided to ask my uncle (who actually owns the unit with his brother) what he thought was the best time to vacation at Siesta Key. He responded:
How does a child explain his favorite flavor of ice cream? When it comes to Florida there really isn’t a bad time at the Condo. When I was a kid, my family use to always stay in Sarasota Surf during the month of August starting back as far back as 1967. It was a fun time just before school started. Kind of the last hurrah for the Summer. We developed friends through the years that would come on vacation at the same time each year. So growing up, August was always special.
Our unit has been in the family since 1980. We’ve been blessed to enjoy our “Piece of Paradise” sporadically year round when it’s not rented. The season change in Florida is almost non-existent. When we have one of those spectacular days here we call it a “Chamber of Commerce” day. Well, we’ve had a run of them here for the last three weeks (October 2010). The weather has been fabulous on any scale. Not only does this season mean so much to our family and faith, this time of year makes for a wonderful get away to Sarasota. I would encourage readers to give Sarasota Surf a try for their next vacation getaway.
Sincerely,
Bill Sanders

Ultimately, it’s up to you when to visit. And no matter what you decide, I bet you’re going to love it. Since my grandparents bought the condo back in 1980, my entire extended family has vacationed many times — and enjoyed Siesta Key year-round. Which is a big reason why the condo is still in the family.
We hope you visit soon!
